When he returned to the temple, he kept thinking about her beautiful face, even to the point of not thinking about it. But she was the daughter of the county magistrate, and he was just a poor scholar. He was like a toad who wanted to eat swan meat. After a long time, he gradually stopped thinking about it. After two years, he heard that Wu's daughter had died of a sudden illness, and he was heartbroken.

Wu County Magistrate is from Zhejiang. Because he was too far away from home, he temporarily parked his daughter's coffin in the temple where Zhang Wencai lived. Zhang Wencai honored the coffin of Wu County Magistrate's daughter as a god. Sooner or later, he must offer incense to worship. When he found out that Wu County Magistrate's daughter's girlfriend was named Wu Xueling, he often prayed: "Although I only have one meeting with you, your voice and appearance often haunt my heart. Who knew that you were such a beautiful beauty, but in a blink of an eye, the incense disappeared and jade died. Now you and I are close at hand, but separated by the end of the world. If you have a spirit under the spring, please gather with me to comfort my infatuation for you." Zhang Wencai prayed like this for forty-nine days.

One night, he was reading at night when he suddenly looked up and saw Wu Xueling standing in front of the lamp with a smile. He asked in surprise, and Xueling said, "Thank you for your infatuation, I can't control myself, so I can't avoid eloping to get together with you." Zhang Wencai was very happy. After another two years, Wu County Magistrate was dismissed and had no money to transport his daughter's coffin back to his hometown for burial. He wanted to be buried on the spot, but there was no suitable place. Zhang Wencai took the initiative to say, "I have a piece of land near the temple, and I am willing to dedicate it to burying your daughter." Wu County magistrate was very happy when he heard this, and Zhang Wencai tried his best to help him with the funeral. Wu County Magistrate was very grateful to him, but he didn't understand why.

After Wu County Magistrate left, the two of them were still as close as before. One night, Xueling snuggled up in Zhang Wencai's arms and said sadly: "We have been friends for three years, and now we are going to break up. Thanks to your kindness, I can repay you in several lifetimes."

Zhang Wencai was very surprised and asked her why she said such a thing. Xue Ling said: "Thank you for chanting the sutras on my behalf, and I have counted 3,600 times. Now I am going to reincarnate at Liu Yuanwai's house in Liujia Village, Zaozhuang, Shandong. If you don't forget our kindness, remember to come and see me!" Zhang Wencai agreed and couldn't help crying. At dawn, the two left in tears.

The next day, Zhang Wencai hired a carriage and rushed to Zaozhuang, Shandong. After arriving in Zaozhuang for half a month, he found out about Liu's village in Zaozhuang. There was indeed a Liu Yuanwai in the village. Half a month ago, he was happy with a thousand golden daughters. Zhang Wencai found Liu Yuanwai's house and explained his purpose. Liu Yuanwai took out his daughter, whose eyebrows and eyes were somewhat similar to Xue Ling. Seeing Zhang Wencai, he showed an innocent smile.
