During the Qianlong period of the Qing Dynasty, there was a peasant woman named Zhang Shi in Tiancun. She was twenty years old, not only beautiful in appearance, but also honest and virtuous, and she was very in love with her husband Li Chun.
On this day, Li Chun was farming in the field. Near noon, Zhang prepared a meal at home, brought food and water, put it in a food box and a water bottle, and went to deliver lunch to her husband who was working in the field.
When Zhang Shi passed by on a small road in the wild, she met a scholar she had never met. The scholar was handsome but had frivolous manners. He stopped Zhang Shi with open arms and said that he was very thirsty and wanted Zhang Shi to drink the water from the water bottle.
The Zhang family was very strict, and when she waited for the boudoir, she would not leave the door. Now that she is married, she is even more cautious and self-sufficient, never talking to strangers. Seeing that the scholar was so rude, she turned her head and left.
Seeing this, Shu Sheng took out a silver ingot from his bosom and threw it into Zhang Shi's sleeve. He smiled shyly and said, "Wife, can Xiao Sheng buy your water with this big silver ingot?" Seeing that Shu Sheng was so frivolous, Zhang Shi was furious.
Shu Sheng did not expect Zhang Shi to be so angry, and was quickly scolded by Zhang shi who was fierce and embarrassed and fled. That night, Zhang Shi told her husband about meeting Shu Sheng, and asked her husband to check which village this frivolous scholar was from.
Zhang's husband, Li Chun, was also very angry and really went to investigate the identity of the scholar, but no one in the four miles and eight townships knew such a scholar. The couple felt that the scholar might have changed in some way, so they stopped inquiring.
After a few days, Li Chun had something to go out with, but he encountered heavy rain on the road, and the road was very muddy, so he couldn't make it back that night. The demon who became a scholar was overjoyed when he heard about this, and immediately changed into Li Chun's appearance, and then braved the heavy rain to come to the Zhang family's house and share the bed with the Zhang family.
After the scholar entered the room, he was afraid that Zhang Shi would see the flaw, so he blew out the candle very early and took the opportunity to light Zhang Shi. At that moment, a lightning bolt suddenly lit up outside, and Zhang Shi was surprised to find that the person playing with him was not her husband Li Chun, but the scholar she met on the road.
Clever, she suddenly understood everything. The furious Zhang Shi stretched out his hand and scratched face of the scholar. Seeing that Zhang Shi was awe-inspiring, the scholar had to jump out of the window and escape.
The next morning, the real Li Chun came back from the outside. He found a huge ape outside his gate. The ape's head had been cut open by something, and his brain had already burst and died.
The ancients said, "If you do evil in the sky, you can still violate it; if you do evil in yourself, you can't live." This sentence is most suitable for a monkey pretending to be a scholar.
