In the Ming Dynasty, there was a scholar named Wang Cheng who by chance married a daughter of a rich family in distress. This young lady's name was Caiyun, and because her father offended the powerful, she was imprisoned on a charge of weaving, and ended up being beheaded by a whole family. It was the maid Sang'er who escaped with Caiyun, and was later rescued by Wang Cheng, a scholar who lost his name, so they became husband and wife. The couple took Sang'er to a small mountain ditch and lived incognito.
After Caiyun married Wang Cheng, he tasted the taste of poverty. At first he didn't say anything, but soon he couldn't stand it anymore. He always lost his temper and took his anger out on Sauner.
But Wang Cheng was not the material to do business. Not only was the money cheated, but he also had a serious illness. When he died, he dreamed of his wife who he had been thinking about all day. In the dream, Caiyun smiled sweetly at him: "Wang Lang, you can't die, it's not a hundred years yet!" After Wang Cheng woke up, he took out the square scarf embroidered by Caiyun from his close-fitting pocket and read the oath on it affectionately: "Two hearts are closely connected. You and I will meet for a hundred years. If anyone dies at the age of ninety-seven, he will wait on the bridge for three years." Wang Cheng thought of his wife waiting for him at home! Wang Chengqiang cheered up, slept all the way, and finally returned home after going through ups and downs.
"Caiyun!" As soon as Wang Cheng entered the house, he shouted excitedly at his sweet wife, but no one came out to agree. There was only the cry of a baby in the room. Wang Cheng entered the house a few steps, opened the curtain, and saw a baby sleeping on the bed.
"Is this my child?" He didn't expect Caiyun to be pregnant when he left. Wang Cheng hugged the child and cried with joy. At that moment, a woman came in from outside the door, Caiyun's maid, Sonny.
Sang'er saw Wang Cheng and cried bitterly. Wang Cheng hurriedly asked her where Caiyun was. Sang'er cried for a long time, but couldn't say a word, just comparing. Wang Cheng was so anxious that he didn't know what disaster had happened to his family, his wife's whereabouts were unknown, and Sang'er became mute again. After Sang'er compared for a long time, Wang Cheng finally understood that Caiyun died in childbirth when she gave birth. This news was tantamount to a thunderbolt from the blue, which broke Wang Cheng.
Wang Cheng read the oath on the square scarf word by word, and his tears were like a dam bursting, and he couldn't control it at once. He said to Sonny, "Sonny, I'll leave the child for you, I'm going to accompany Caiyun, I can't bear to let her wait for me on the Naihe Bridge!" After saying that, he stood up and was about to hit the pillar. Sonny was terrified and hugged him, tears streaming down his face, she shook her head vigorously, then turned and hugged the child, stuffing it in Wang Cheng's hand.
Wang Cheng looked at the sleeping baby in his arms and softened his heart. The voice and smile of his sweet wife swirled in his mind, and he suddenly ran to the kitchen, grabbed a kitchen knife, and chopped off three of his fingers with one knife! He murmured, "Caiyun, since I can't accompany you to the underworld, just use my fingers instead of mine to be buried with you for the time being. I will raise our child and go to you."
Wang Cheng asked Sonny where Caiyun was buried, and Sonny babbled and gestured, which made people confused. Wang Cheng had to hold the child and walk out the door, but he couldn't find Caiyun's tomb when it was dark. Finally, he fainted because of excessive blood loss from his severed finger.
When Wang Cheng woke up, he found himself lying on the bed, his hands bandaged, the pot was covered with hot food, and the child asleep on the bed, smashing his mouth, with a smile on his face, but the maid Sonny was gone. Wang Cheng suddenly felt that Caiyun was not dead, she must have turned into a fairy, silently taking care of herself and the child!
Wang Cheng thought this way, and something strange really happened. When there was no rice at home, an extra bag of rice would inexplicably appear, and new clothes for him and the child would appear in the trunk from time to time. Wang Cheng couldn't find Caiyun, so he firmly believed that she was still alive, fantasizing that she would suddenly appear in front of him and the child one day.
In the blink of an eye, at the end of the year, the child had a serious illness, and Wang Cheng was in a hurry. Where could he find a Langzhong in this poor country? Seeing that the child was weak day by day, Wang Cheng was anxious and walked with the child for a long time. When he saw a temple in front of him, he immediately carried the child to the temple to burn incense. Unexpectedly, he met Sonny here. Since he broke his finger that day, Sonny had disappeared, and Wang Cheng guessed that Sonny must have been unwilling to follow their father and son to suffer, so he found another way out. No wonderin the past they had a relationship with Caiyun's master and servant, but now Caiyun is gone, who doesn't take care of each other?
Sang'er came out of the temple with a haggard look and saw the child trembling with cold in Wang Cheng's arms. He carefully took out a colorful dress from his pocket and wanted to put it on. Wang Cheng looked at this thing and was not angry. It was not clothes, it was a shirt sewn into pieces of ragged cloth, no different from a beggar's clothes. Think about how delicate the clothes Caiyun puts in his suitcase. Wang Cheng grabbed the clothes and threw them far away. Sang'er picked up the clothes silently, anxious and sad, and hid aside with tears in his eyes. Wang Cheng worshiped the Bodhisattva, praying that the child would get better soon and have a safe life.
When Wang Cheng came back from the temple, he put the child to bed and went to work in the field. When he got home in the evening, he was surprised to find that the child was wearing the "beggar's shirt" at some point! Was Sonny? Why did she do that? Wang Cheng went out to look for Sonny, but he didn't see Sonny, but found a beggar walking towards his house not far away. Wang Cheng was very sad when he thought of his business failure at that time and came back all the way to ask for food. There was no other family here. If he didn't give him something to eat, the beggar might starve to death. He thought, turned back to the house and came out with a bowl of leftovers, walked towards the beggar, and when he got close, he couldn't help but exclaim, the bowl also fell to the ground and smashed to pieces.
The unkempt beggar standing in front of Wang Cheng was his wife Caiyun! Wang Cheng was so surprised that he couldn't speak, and before he could come back to his senses, Sonny came out of nowhere, pulled Caiyun into the room, closed the door, motioned for her to wait on the lady to bathe and change clothes, and called Wang Cheng out. Wang Cheng didn't know, but he felt that Caiyun seemed to be avoiding him on purpose, and Sonny's expression was also very strange. He came quietly to the door, but heard "Mute" Sonny speak!
While giving Caiyun a bath, Sang'er asked her why she was in such a bad state. Caiyun's answer made Wang Cheng almost faint outside the door. It turned out that she was not used to the hard life, leaving her children and Shen Hua, a business person who passed by, and ran away. After a period of rich life, Shen Hua was a guy who was addicted to gambling, and soon lost all his family assets and sold her to a brothel. Caiyun couldn't stand the inhuman torture and ran out secretly. Although she felt sorry for Wang Cheng, she had nowhere to go, so she held on a bit of luck, hoping that Wang Cheng hadn't come home yet, and would continue to stay here as if nothing had happened. But Wang Cheng had already returned, and Caiyun didn't know what to do.
Sang'er said while weeping: "Miss, you shouldn't have been so cruel at that time, the child is so small, and you and my uncle have already made a 100-year contract. I told him you were dead as you said, and he almost died with you. I was afraid that he would ask about your situation, so I didn't know how to answer, so I had to pretend to be dumb all the time. Seeing that his father and son are quite pitiful, I built a thatched hut more than ten miles away, planted and weaved, and secretly helped them. How about... you say that you did all this, and then come back and live a good life with him!"
Wang Cheng's heart fell into an ice hole, and when the two of them came out of the back room, he pointed to a square scarf on the table with a livid face and said to Caiyun, "You can go, there is no need to lie anymore, the pure Caiyun in my heart is already dead, and my oath with her has long been buried in the loess." Wang Cheng said, raising his left hand with three broken fingers.
Caiyun was so ashamed that she took the square scarf and left silently. Sonny wanted to chase after her with tears, but was caught by Wang Cheng.
He took off the clothes on the child without a word, and Sonny hurried to stop him. She anxiously told Wang Cheng that she had walked for three days and three nights to find a hundred families surnamed Liu in the village outside the mountain, and wanted a hundred family clothes made by kneeling in front of the Bodhisattva, so that he could "keep" the child. Wang Cheng remembered her haggard look and anxious expression in the temple, and for a while he had mixed feelings. Thinking of Sonny and Caiyun, he regretted that he had seen the wrong person.
Wang Cheng begged Sonny to stay and take care of the child, and Sonny agreed. Perhaps Sonny's sincerity moved the heavens, and the child's illness got better day by day. Sonny took care of the child, took care of the housework, and silently took care of the family. Wang Cheng was grateful to Sonny from the bottom of his heart, and felt that Sonny was good, but he dared not swear to Sonny again, because the clouds hurt him too deeply.
In the blink of an eye, twenty years later, the child had grown up, but Sonny had a serious illness and could not get up in bed. Before she died, she called Wang Cheng. Sonny said through tears that Caiyun lived in the thatched hut where she used to live, and all these years, Sonny had been giving her money and rice. She couldn't bear Caiyun suffering outside, after all, she was the mother of the child.
Wang Cheng was moved by Sonny's kindness, and he held her hand tightly, tears streaming down his face. Sonny reached out to wipe his tears, and then said, "After I die, you have to take care of Caiyun and treat her well... This, I must be buried with me after I die." After she finished speaking, she reached out under the pillow and took out a box and handed it to Wang Cheng.
On the day of Sonny's death, Wang Cheng suddenly felt a lot of pain in his heart, as if his whole person was broken. For the past 20 years, he has not said love to Sonny, and now he realizes that love is not a vow, but an ordinary life. In fact, he already had Sonny in his heart. Wang Cheng cut off a strand of his own hair and prepared to bury it in that box with Sonny. When he opened the box, he couldn't help but be stunned. There were three dry finger bones in the box. Yes, it was the finger he cut off at the beginning, and she had been lying under her pillow all these years! There was also a note in the box. Wang Cheng opened the note, and there was a poem written on it: "Although you have no oath to me, my heart will never change to you. I can't dream with you in this life, and I will definitely be together in the next life."
Wang Cheng's face was full of tears as he muttered, "Sonny, wait for me on the Bridge of Naihe!"
That night, Wang Cheng's son had a dream. He dreamed that his father was wearing a big red flower on his chest, holding a bride with a red veil, and came to bid him farewell, telling him to take good care of his mother-in-law. When he woke up from the dream, he went to see his father, and Wang Cheng had gone peacefully.
