During the Daoguang period of the Qing Dynasty, there was a magistrate in Zhao'an County called Song Numa. According to folklore, he was born a thief. How did he become the county magistrate?
Legend has it that one night, Song Numa passed over the roof and suddenly heard a cry. He stopped to listen carefully, and the cry was in the house. Song Numa wondered, what made them so sad so late? He jumped down and looked in through the crack in the door. Oh! This family is so poor, a man who looks like a scholar lies on the bed, with incense in the stove, and a woman kneels in front of the stove and cries to the steward. Listening to the woman's cry, it turns out that this scholar has been admitted to the scholar, and his family is poor, and now he is seriously ill in bed and has no money to treat. Xiucai wife saw that her husband was about to die of illness. In order to save his life, she followed the matchmaker's idea and would remarry tomorrow to serve others. She exchanged some money to treat her husband's illness.
When Song Numa heard of the family's misery, he was determined to save the couple. Today, he had spied on the rich man of the big and small, and decided to steal his belongings to give to the poor.
On the third watch, Song Numa had already succeeded, carrying a bag of silver to the roof of Xiucai's house, and heard Xiucai wife still lying in front of the stove crying. Song Numa stood on the house and shouted loudly: "You couple deserve happiness, God will help you." After saying that, he poured a bag of silver down the chimney.
Song Numa's words and the jingle of self-silver alerted Xiucai's wife. When she got up, she saw that the stove was full of silver. The husband and wife thought that their good intentions were rewarded, and they got help from the gods, and burned incense and thanked God again. With the money, of course, Xiucai's wife did not have to remarry, and Xiucai was cured by this help. He studied hard all day, and the next year he went to Beijing for the exam, and he won the jinshi, which was among the top. After that, he was hand-appointed to patrol and inspect various places.
The inspector was a benevolent gentleman. He went through the prefecture every time and tried the case files carefully. On this day, he came to a certain prefecture in southern Fujian and immediately read the case files, selecting a few cases with serious cases to review in person. When he reviewed the case of the habitual thief Song Numa, he called the prisoner to be arraigned.
It turned out that Song Numa was arrested for theft, and the county official blamed Song Numa for all the theft cases in the past. Song Numa made a confession and was about to be executed in the autumn. At this time, he came to the public hall and immediately did not kneel. The inspector slapped the alarm and shouted: "Song Numa, a bold thief, came to this hall and did not kneel, what is the reason!" Song Rinuma replied bluntly: "Although I stole, I took all the money and goods I stole to the poor in Zhou, leaving only a small amount for the cost of the solar eclipse. What is the crime?" The inspector said: "Well, you can count how you helped the people in Zhou. If it is a fact, I will exonerate you." Song Numa counted them one by one. When he said that Zhou Ji had rescued a scholar, the inspector immediately called for a suspension of the trial, closed the door and left the hall.
Song Nuan was invited to the back hall on a business trip, and he felt strange. When the patrol couple came out, they bowed down and kept shouting, "Benefactor, benefactor, if it wasn't for the rescue of the benefactor, my husband and wife would not have the honor today!" Song Nuan was startled and quickly knelt down. The patrol immediately helped him up and said, "I am the poor scholar who saved his life with silver!" The patrol held a banquet to entertain Song Nuan. After the banquet, he held out a bag of gold and silver to give to him, but Song Nuan refused to accept it. Asked him what he was asking, Song Nuan said he would not want any money. The patrol wanted him to be an official, and Song Nuan agreed to be a county magistrate.
Song Numa served as the county magistrate of Zhao'an. During his tenure, he was considerate of the people and seriously governed civil affairs. At the end of his three-year term, Song Numa was sealed with gold and still lived his life of poverty alleviation and chivalry. No one knew his whereabouts later.
