Chenjiazhuang is a small village located in the mountains of the northwest. Folk customs are simple, men cultivate and women weave. For hundreds of years, there has been little communication with the outside world, and people live an almost secluded life. For many years after liberation, the people of Chenjiazhuang were still lighting up with oil lamps and pushing stones to grind noodles.

At the back of Chenjiazhuang, there was a deep ditch called Toad Ditch. Deep in the ditch, there was a spring water called Toad Spring. The water in Toad Spring was green and lush with algae, but because it contained too many minerals, drinking water for a long time was harmful to human health and fertility.

Due to the fact that spring water would not dry up all year round and was rich in nutrients, the land in Toad Ditch could be irrigated and harvested bountifully even during severe drought. Therefore, people also called Toad Spring the "Saving Spring of Desolation."

Regarding Toad Spring, there is a very mysterious legend that the people of the Chen family firmly believes.

It is said that there is a huge toad spirit in this toad spring, and the spring water does not dry up even in a dry year, mainly because the toad spirit takes care of the water and conserving the water. There are even old people in the village who say they have seen the toad spirit with their own eyes.

According to these old people, on the night of the full moon during the busy farming season, the people in Zhuangli went into the ditch in the middle of the night in order to grab the farm season, and occasionally they could see a big toad crawling out of the spring water, squatting on the rocks by the spring, looking at the moon and vomiting, self-cultivation, and slowly crawling into the spring water before the rooster crows. This is also the reason why this spring water got its name.

For the above reasons, the people of Chenjiazhuang love spring water and never spoil it. Although the northwest has experienced many famines and wars over the years, and the outside world has starved countless people, the people of Chenjiazhuang have been able to save the lives of the whole village.

After liberation, life and production gradually developed, and the application of chemical fertilizers and pesticides greatly increased the yield of crops in many places in a short period of time. This modern and advanced technology also gradually spread to Chenjiazhuang.

The people of Chenjiazhuang used chemical fertilizers for the first time, and many old farmers who had been planting crops for a lifetime were stunned: these small white particles were sprinkled in the wheat seedlings after the rain, and the next day, the wheat seedlings were all brushed together and could rise a bit. Green leaves were much more conspicuous than those without chemical fertilizers.

Pesticides are even more amazing. Originally, many crops in Chenjiazhuang had to grow bugs every year and eat some of the harvest. People used to have no way to use these bugs, but now as soon as pesticides are sprayed, the bugs die, and the harvest does not have to be divided into bugs. How happy is this!

The people of Chenjiazhuang have been eating in the soil for hundreds of years. Looking at the face of God, when they saw these two magical things, they were eager to use them in the ground immediately. It happened that the state also encouraged them at that time, so honest villagers no longer stuck to the rules when planting the land, and used chemical fertilizers and pesticides.

It was said that at that time, the people who used pesticides for the Toad Ditch crops all took spring water and mixed the medicine in Toad Spring. Some young people made it convenient for them to rinse the medicine buckets directly in Toad Spring after finishing the medicine. At the beginning, people were still sneaking around, but later, when there were many people washing the medicine buckets, everyone did not hide it from each other and began to be blatant.

In this way, a large amount of pesticide water was poured into the Toad Spring. Some elderly people in the village were heartbroken when they saw this scene, but they had no choice. Occasionally, they persuaded the young farmers that there was a toad spirit in the Toad Spring, but they were mocked and put on the big hat of feudal superstition.

Gradually, the spring water of Toad Spring began to turn green and black, the water level slowly dropped, and it would smell bad when it was hot, but these people didn't take it to heart.

One day, there was thunder and lightning in Chenjiazhuang, and there was a heavy rainstorm. Some people went to see the crops in the Toad Ditch after the rain. After passing by the Toad Spring, they found a huge dead toad floating in the dirty spring water.

The people were stunned and quickly ran to the village to call for someone to salvage the huge toad together. When some white-bearded old men in the village saw the big toad, their beards were shaking and they said, The toad essence has been poisoned to death, which is a great sin!

People buried this big toad in the back of the village. Many years later, some mysterious people dug up the toad's bones, and they didn't know where to send them. This is a future story.

From then on, the spring water in the toad spring gradually dried up and dried up forever, and there was no longer the saying of spring to save the famine in Chenjiazhuang. The people of Chenjiazhuang were no different from the outside world when they farmed, and sometimes they used more chemical fertilizers and pesticides than people in other places, and they were even more ruthless.

Some elderly people always like to say: In the past, vegetables and fruits grown in Chenjiazhuang could be eaten by wiping them and flushing them, but now it is not easy to soak them for a while, and no one dares to mouth them. In the past, there were no pesticides, but pests were not as severe as they are now. Now that there are pesticides, pests are even more rampant. It is a pity that the water in Toad Spring has completely dried up, and the "Spring of Salvation from Desolation" in Chenjiazhuang has disappeared forever.

Now going to Chenjiazhuang to see Toad Spring, there is only a dry deep pit, and the long-lasting clear water in the pool is long gone.
