Mid-Autumn Festival is a traditional festival in our country. According to historical records, the term "Mid-Autumn Festival" first appeared in the book "Zhou Li". During the Wei and Jin Dynasties, there was a record of "the cattle in the town of Shangshu, the mid-autumn evening and the left and right micro-clothes flooding the river. It was not until the early years of the Tang Dynasty that the Mid-Autumn Festival became a fixed festival. "The Book of Tang · Taizong Records" records the "Mid-Autumn Festival on August 15th."

The popularity of the Mid-Autumn Festival began in the Song Dynasty, and by the Ming and Qing Dynasties, it had become as famous as New Year's Day and became one of the main festivals in our country. It is also the second largest traditional festival in our country after the Spring Festival.

According to the calendar of our country, the eighth month of the lunar calendar is in the middle of autumn, which is the second month of autumn, which is called "Mid-Autumn Festival", and the fifteenth day of August is in the "Mid-Autumn Festival", so it is called "Mid-Autumn Festival".

The Mid-Autumn Festival has many other names: because the festival is on August 15th, it is called "August Festival" and "August Half"; because the main activities of the Mid-Autumn Festival are carried out around the "moon", it is also commonly known as "Moon Festival" and "Moon Eve"; Mid-Autumn Festival. The moon is full and symbolizes reunion, so it is also called "Reunion Festival." In the Tang Dynasty, the Mid-Autumn Festival is also known as "Duanzheng Moon". Records of the "Reunion Festival" first appeared in the Ming Dynasty.

"The 15th of August is called the Mid-Autumn Festival, and the people give each other moon cakes as gifts, which means reunion," said Zhiyu Tour of the West Lake. "The Imperial Capital Scenery" also says: "On the 15th of August, when you offer sacrifices to the moon, the cakes will be round, the melons will be divided into teeth, and the petals will be engraved like lotus flowers.... Those who are married and return to Ning must return to their husband's house on a daily basis, which is also called the Festival of Reunion."

On the evening of the Mid-Autumn Festival, most parts of our country still have the custom of branding "reunion", that is, branding a small cake that symbolizes reunion and is similar to moon cakes. The cake contains sugar, sesame seeds, osmanthus and vegetables, and the moon, osmanthus, and rabbits are pressed outside.

After the moon sacrifice, the elders of the family will divide the cake into pieces according to the number of people, and each person will have one piece. If someone is not at home, they will leave a copy for them, indicating family reunion.
