There is a temple on Huashan Mountain. The temple god, the Third Virgin (also called Huayue Sanniang), is the niece of the Jade Emperor and the sister of the god Erlang. She is beautiful, kind and affectionate, and has lived a lonely life since she was sent to Huashan by the Queen Mother. On this day, she was singing and dancing in the temple, killing time, when she suddenly found a scholar stepping into the temple gate. She hurried to the lotus throne and turned into a statue. When Liu Xiang entered the hall, he saw the statue of Sanniang at a glance. She was handsome, gentle and carefree. Liu Xiang was deeply attracted and thought how happy he would be to marry her as his wife! Unfortunately, it was just a statue without emotional perception. Liu Xiang, with deep regret, could not restrain his excitement, took out his pen and ink, and affectionately wrote on the wall his love for Sanniang.

Third Aunt silently watched all this, and her heart could not help but be mixed with feelings. The scholar in front of her was so handsome and suave, and his literary talent was outstanding. He was full of affection for himself, and why wasn't he deeply attracted to him, and why didn't she love him? However, one was a fairy in the upper realm, and the other was a mortal below, how could they conclude a marriage? Watching Liu Xiang, who was sad and reluctant to part, Third Aunt could no longer calm down. She pondered again and again, and finally decided to disregard the injunction of the heavens and marry Liu Xiang. Therefore, Third Aunt turned into a folk woman, caught up with Liu Xiang, and told him the truth. From then on, the two of them depended on each other and became husband and wife, and their love was incomparable. Liu Xiang's examination period was approaching, and Sanniang was already pregnant. When he parted, Liu Xiang gave Sanniang a piece of ancestral agarwood, saying that a child could be born in the name of "agarwood" in the future. The two sent each other for eighteen miles, and it was hard to part.

Liu Xiang won the ranking in the capital in one fell swoop and was appointed as an inspector of the Yangzhou government. Just as he took office, Huayue Sanniang was in trouble. It turned out that at this time, it was the birthday of the Queen Mother, and there was a big peach party in the Tiangong Palace. All kinds of gods came to the party to celebrate their birthday, but when Sanniang was pregnant, she shrugged off the disease and stayed in Huashan. Who knew, the truth was known by Sanniang's brother, Erlang God, who was furious and blamed his sister for marrying an ordinary person privately, violating the law of heaven, and wanted to arrest her and be punished by heaven. The Third Aunt was upright and fearless, and she also had a treasure given by the Queen Mother – the Baolian Lantern, which was the Third Aunt's treasure of the mountains. No matter which demon or immortal, as long as the Baolian Lantern shines brightly, it will be shocked and convinced, and it will be captured. Erlang God knew that he was invincible, so he ordered his heavenly dog to steal the Baolian Lantern while Third Aunt was resting. In this way, the poor Third Aunt was pressed into the dark cloud cave under the Huashan Mountain by Erlang God. The third aunt gave birth to her son Chenxiang in the dark cave. In case of an accident, she secretly begged Yasha to send the son to Yangzhou and stay with her father Liu Xiang.

When Chenxiang grew up, she gradually became sensible. Knowing that her mother was suffering under the pressure of Huashan Mountain, she wanted to rescue her mother, Sanniang. He told his father what he thought, but Liu Xiang was just a weak scholar, so he sighed and shook his head. So Chenxiang left home alone and went to find his mother. After all the hardships, he finally reached Huashan Mountain. But where is her mother? The eight-year-old child was at a loss and burst into tears. The mournful and painful cries echoed in the empty valley, alerting the Thunderbolt Immortal who passed by. The kind immortal asked the reason for the love, and the kind-hearted Sanniang and the hard-working child complained, but there was nothing he could do. So he took Chenxiang back to his cave. Under the guidance of Daxian, Chenxiang studied hard and earnestly, and gradually learned the six paths and three strategies, all kinds of martial arts, and seventy-three changes. On her sixteenth birthday, Chenxiang bid farewell to her master and went to Huashan to save her mother. Daxian remembered that others had small ambitions and gave him a divine axe from Xuanhua Mountain.

Agarwood soared through the clouds and came to the black cloud cave in Huashan Mountain. He called out to his mother loudly, and his voice penetrated through the layers of rocks and entered the ears of Sanniang. Sanniang couldn't help but feel excited. She knew that her son had grown up, andilial piety came to save her. Excited, she called Agarwood to the cave. Sanniang knew that his brother Erlang was powerful, and Sun Wukong, who had made trouble in the palace, was also defeated by him; Agarwood was young, and besides, Erlang God stole the Baolian Lantern, how could his son be his opponent? So Sanniang asked Agarwood to go to his uncle to intercede.

Agarwood flew to Erlang Temple and begged Erlang God bitterly. Who knew that Erlang God had a heart of stone, not only did he refuse to release Sanniang, but he danced a three-pointed and two-edged knife to attack Agarwood. Agarwood was furious and felt that Erlang God was bullying too much, so she swung her divine axe and fought him. The two were in the clouds and fog, with knives and axes, in the mountains and waters, they turned into dragons and fish; they killed from the sky to the ground, and then from the world back to the palace; they killed until the mountains shook and the earth moved, and the river turned over the sea, and the sky was dark. This incident alarmed Taibai Jinxing and sent four great immortals to see what happened. The fourth immortal aunt watched for a while in the clouds and felt that Erlang God, as an uncle, treated a child so fiercely, it was too ruthless. So they gave each other a wink and secretly helped Agarwood. Agarwood became more and more brave, and the Vietnam War God, Erlang God, could no longer resist it, so he had to flee, and the Baolian Lantern finally returned to Agarwood's hands.

Agarwood immediately flew back to Huashan, raised the Xuanhua Mountain Opening God Axe, and slashed hard. Only to hear a loud "rumble" sound, the ground shook, and Huashan cracked. Agarwood hurriedly found the black cloud hole and rescued her mother. It took sixteen years for Sanniang, who had suffered a lot, to see the light of day again. She hugged her son tightly, with mixed feelings and tears streaming down her face.

Later, Erlang God admitted his mistake to Sanniang and Chenxiang; Chenxiang was also canonized by the Jade Emperor. From then on, Sanniang, Liu Xiang and their hero son Chenxiang's family were reunited and lived happily together.

The story is full of mythology, expressing the value of family, friendship and love. The sister of Erlang God, the Third Virgin (also known as Huayue Sanniang), the niece of the Jade Emperor, is beautiful, kind and affectionate, and fell in love with Liu Yanchang (also called Liu Xiang), a scholar of the Han Dynasty. The Third Virgin has a "Baolian Lantern" to protect them and live happily. Suddenly, one day, Erlang God discovered them from the flash of the "Baolian Lantern." In order to maintain the rules of heaven, Erlang God confined the Third Virgin to the bottom of the Huashan Mountain. The Third Virgin gave birth to agarwood during her ordeal, and asked her handmaid Ganoderma lucidum and the Baolian Lantern to escort her father Liu Yanchang to raise him. Liu Yanchang met Wang Ying on the way to her death, and the two married and had a son named Qiu'er. Agarwood and Qiuer are like brothers and sisters. One day, while studying at school, Agarwood accidentally injured his colleague Qin Guanbao, so he fled to the mountains. There was an eager and helpful long-eared immortal in the mountains. He immediately had a good idea when he blinked his eyes and stomped his feet. The long-eared immortal gave Agarwood the sacred cauldron and informed him of his life experience, leading Agarwood to find his mother and start a fierce battle with his uncle Erlang God in the temple of Erlang. With the belief of saving the mother, he finally held the sacred cauldron to rescue his mother from Huashan. Finally, Sanniang, Liu Xiang and Agarwood's family were reunited.
