promotion storm

I was hired as a senior planner for a large company, but Fang Hao, the general manager, didn't like me at first because the salary was set high when I first arrived. He always made things difficult for me over and over again, so I always had a lot of desk work. Every time I was busy, it was very uncomfortable to see others idle and bored, but I didn't complain.

In the face of Mr Fang's deliberate making things difficult, I always laughed, but those colleagues who were angry about my high salary in the past began to complain to me. Mr. Fang may not have expected that his making things difficult would win me a lot of popularity.

Once, when Mr. Fang lost his temper with me, the chairperson happened to come in. Mr. Fang said seriously, "Chairperson, look, it's been half a year, and he still can't write a plan well. I'm guiding him!"

The chairperson picked up the plan I had written and looked at it seriously. After a while, he looked up and said to Fang Hao seriously, "Mr. Fang, this is the best plan I have ever seen. Do you think he did not write it well?

President Fang was dumbfounded for a moment, and the awkward atmosphere reminded me that I should solve the situation for this boss, so I said, "Chairperson, in fact, President Fang is also for my own good. If it weren't for his strict requirements, I wouldn't be able to write such a good plan."

"That's good," the chairperson pointed to me and said, "Mr. Fang, I think from today onwards, he will be in charge of the planning department. I wonder what your opinion is?"

"No problem, Chairperson, Xiao Zhang is really good at this." I was taken aback at the time, and it seemed that the head of the company was not confused.

After this incident, Mr. Fang's attitude towards me changed a lot. Since I am responsible for my work, treat my subordinates politely, and cooperate happily with the collaboration department, although Mr. Fang is still jealous of me, he is not ignorant of the current situation. At regular work meetings, he often praises me and the work of the department, so much so that Li Lu, the director of the marketing department who has a good relationship with me, quietly said to me: "The surname Fang is a dog who sees people, and knows that the chairperson values you, he will take the wheel of the wind. This guy is sinister."

I just smiled.  Although Fang Hao did have opinions in my heart, I felt that now was not the time to raise conditions, and doing a good job was the first priority. In fact, I also knew very well that Fang Hao bullied his subordinates and took advantage of the company, but I think the chairperson's delay in attacking him proved that Fang Hao still played an irreplaceable role. The chairperson should have seen this more clearly.

As expected, that day, the chairperson invited me, Li Lu, and several other responsible people to dinner. Since Fang Hao was not present, Li Lu and another middle-level leader began to pour bitter water on the chairperson, listing Fang Hao's various faults, and the chairperson put on an unheard-of look and listened carefully. Finally, facing President Fang's "bad track record", the chairperson said regretfully: "It seems that I need to know more about the situation in the future. You are my right-hand man, and you work hard."

Soon, Li Lu began to instigate a "coup" and wanted to bring me into the fold. I subconsciously felt that this would "cause an accident", so I reminded him: "Minister Li, have you ever thought about who would be fired if the chairperson did not agree?" I secretly scolded this idiot in my heart, but as a colleague, I can't say too much.

The chairperson talked to me. He handed me a joint letter. It was Li Lu and other employees who accused Fang Hao, and asked me what I thought. From the standpoint of the company's overall situation, I talked about Mr. Fang's role in the company and his contribution, as well as the possible consequences of the company without him. Finally, I said earnestly: "From the bottom of my heart, many of the employees' views may be correct, but it is not appropriate to remove him now."

The chairperson smiled, "I really didn't see the wrong person."

A week later, at the company's general meeting, the chairperson did criticize some of Fang Hao's practices, but overall he was positive about his work and praised his contribution to the company's business development. Li Lu and others felt that the limelight was not right and began to fidget, while Fang Hao, who had been "trusted" by the chairperson, was even more arrogant. The outcome is self-evident, and I was also promoted to the deputy general manager of the company due to the nomination of the chairperson.

On the surface, this is Fang Hao's victory, but the hidden "murderous intent" has quietly surged in his consciousness. It's just that the authorities are fans, and the bystanders are clear. The chairperson said to me privately: "I hope you will become familiar with the business as soon as possible, improve the relationship in all aspects, and support this day." From his words, I faintly felt a heavy trust outside of trust.

A year later, due to my outstanding business, the chairperson believed that I was fully capable of handling important tasks alone, promoted me to Fang Hao's position, and fired Fang Hao.

In the workplace, people are in turmoil one after another, and whether to do or not requires not only knowledge, but also a kind of wisdom. This kind of wisdom is not the power of intrigue and planning, and sometimes it is precisely the principle of putting the collective interests first and safeguarding the overall situation that we are prone to ignore when we are young and impulsive.
