A long time ago, the villagers on the banks of the Longxi River in the Ninghe River, male farmers and female weavers, lived a happy life in peace and contentment. One year, a rhubarb dragon flew in from nowhere and did many evils. It either calls the wind and rain to destroy crops, or swallows clouds and fog to maim life, causing the whole canyon to be smoky and restless. Every year on its birthday on June 6th, people are forced to offer a pair of boys and girls, ten big yellow oxen and a hundred pigs and sheep for it to enjoy. Otherwise, it will be angry and do evil, open its bloody mouth, run up to the village to devour people and animals, destroy the pastures, and cause the local people to complain and complain.
In Longxi Town, Xiakou, there was a smart and handsome little girl named Yugu who was determined to get rid of this evil dragon. Several times, she went up to Yuntai Temple to ask Yuntai Fairy for help, but she couldn't find it. She was still not discouraged and continued to look for it. Early that morning, she went up to Yuntai Temple again. The fairy was moved by Yugu's sincere spirit and appeared in front of her. She pointed out to her, "There is a carp cave thousands of miles away from here. You can go meet a carp fairy. She will definitely be able to help you."
Yu Gu said goodbye to Fairy Yuntai, traveled mountains and waters, and went through thousands of hardships, came to the carp cave, found the Carp Fairy, and explained its purpose. Carp Fairy said to Yu Gu: "You want to eliminate harm for the people, this is a great thing, but you have to sacrifice yourself! Can you do this?" Yu Gu said without hesitation: "As long as it is for the villagers to eliminate harm and evil dragons, even if it is to go up the mountain of knives, go to the sea of fire, and be smashed to pieces!" Seeing Yu Gu's sincerity and determination, Carp Fairy nodded with satisfaction, sprayed three mouthfuls of white spring water at Yu Gu, and she suddenly turned into a beautiful and lively red carp.
The little red carp went up the river, and after seventy-seven and forty-nine days she swam back to her hometown. It was the morning of June 6th. She turned and changed her appearance, and saw that the villagers were ready: a pair of boys and girls, ten big yellow oxen, and a hundred fat sheep and pigs. People beat gongs and drums, like a long dragon approaching the fjord where the yellow dragon was sacrificed. The pair of boys and girls in red clothes and red skirts in front of her had already cried into tears.
When Huanglong saw the people serving the delicacies, he was already salivating and proudly opened his mouth. Just at this critical moment, Yu Gu stepped forward first, stopped the elders and said, "Everyone wait here, let me go and clean up this harmful spirit." Just as she finished speaking, Yu Gu jumped into the water, instantly turned into a big red carp, leaped into the air, rushed straight into the mouth of the evil dragon, and jumped into its belly, stabbing and poking, smashing the dragon's internal organs to pieces. The evil dragon struggled desperately and rolled hard, but to no avail, she was finally killed by Yu Gu. However, Yu Gu herself was buried in the belly of Huanglong.
Since then, the people of Ninghe have lived and worked in peace and contentment. In order to commemorate Yu Gu's harm to the people, a carp temple was built on the hillside of Xiaokou. To this day, the story of "carp jumping through the dragon gate" is still widely spread in the Ninghe area.
This is a story rich in mythology. In order to eliminate harm for the people, the protagonist Yu Gu is not afraid of difficulties to find the Carp Fairy, and finally sacrifices his life to kill the big yellow dragon. This sacrifice spirit is worth touching everyone.
This kind of sacrifice spirit is also needed in life and study. Only by giving will you be rewarded, and there will be no pie in the sky. Only by working hard in spring can you reap the fruits in autumn.
No matter in study or in life, we must have perseverance and patience. Yu Gu had gone to the Yuntai Temple several times to look for Yuntai Fairy, but she didn't see it. But she did not give up her wish because of failure, but continued to work hard unremittingly until the goal was achieved.
In addition, Yu Gu suffered a lot on the road in order to find the Carp Fairy; when she knew that she had to sacrifice her life, she still did not hesitate. This kind of courage of "knowing that there are tigers in the mountains and going to the tiger mountains" is particularly commendable. We also cannot back down when we encounter difficulties. With determination, perseverance and courage to stand up to difficulties, we will not be easily defeated by difficulties.
